Will The Delegate From The Open ID Party Please Stand Up

I have known about OpenID for as long as it has been around.  I have never felt the need to use it as I would have had to create a relationship with another third party.  Well, it's been a long time since then and I decided it was time to take the plunge.  Luckily, these days, there is no shortage of providers.  Many of which I have accounts at.  I chose Google Profiles.  And using delegates, I can use my own domain and just have it redirect to Google.  If I wanted to change my delegate in the future, it would be a fairly painless modification.

How to implement?  Easy enough, I just added the following between the <head> tags of the website I wanted to use as my OpenID. (Replace {PROFILE ID} with your Google Profile ID, duh.)

<link href="https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/ud" rel="openid2.provider" />
<link href="https://www.google.com/profiles/{PROFILE ID}" rel="openid2.local_id" />
<link href="https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/ud" rel="openid.server" />
<link href="https://www.google.com/profiles/{PROFILE ID}" rel="openid.delegate" />

Information for Google OpenID link formats found at

X Minutes/Hours/Days Earlier Trend Is X-ing Me Off!

Why why why, oh why does every show I watch have to use such a ridiculous method of trying to pull in viewers?  You know the one I speak of.  The show starts with a flash of what is happening now; then the screen goes black as glowing white lettering displays 8 Hours Earlier.  Or some other period of time that I don't really give two shits about.  Don't get me wrong, I appreciate non-linear storytelling as much as the next guy.  But that's not what this is.  This is just linear storytelling with the ass where the head should be.  I wouldn't even be ranting if it was used sparingly.  However; every show I watch these days is using it more and more.  Showing me the end at the beginning only makes me want to stop watching or fast forward to the end.  Which I do with alarming frequency.  So just stop it.

P.S.  What your doing is the equivalent of ejaculating before foreplay.  And nobody wants that.

Really Guy?

I was taking some things to our storage space today.  Not too exciting.  Well, to be honest, this story is at no point exciting in any way.  I get done dropping my things off, and am driving out of the complex.  I put in my code to open the gate and start to drive out.  As I am leaving, I see someone coming up the ramp.  As has happened before, I can tell that they are going to try and enter before the gate closes without entering their own code.  Not this time person in the other car, I say to myself.  I block them from entering, forcing them to go toward the keypad.  The guy in the car still tries to squeeze through, but I created too narrow of a passage to get by.  We roll down our window, as they are side-by-side now.  I say, Go enter your own code.  He asks, You're not going to let me in?  I said No.  I use this place because of their security.  I don't know you.  If you want to get in, put in your code.  He tells me he helped build this place.  *So What!* I said great, then you know how important physical security is in a place like this and you can appreciate everyone entering their own code and not just letting cars through whenever they feel like it.  Yep.  He rolled his window up, backed up, and put in his code.  But seriously?  This is common sense people.  That's why everyone gets their own code.

Did you see that Sherlock Holmes pilot?

Solve This Bitches!Ok, so it was a movie.  And a darn good one at that.  But the whole time I'm watching, I'm thinking to myself, "self, is this a fairly entertaining movie, or a really long pilot to a fantastic TV show"?  Your guess is as good as mine.  Personally though, TV show.  It would be a perfect fit right now with all that steampunky goodness.  That's all I got, talk amongst yourselves.

Battlestar Galactic-Awesome

BSG: F-YEAHWhen BSG 2004 first aired, I watched the mini-series and a few episodes but couldn't really get into it.  I had never really watched the original BSG which, I believe, affected my reception of the new series.  BSG 2004 is over now and there are a lot of people whom I respect that love the series and have been trying to get me to watch it.  Well, I had all ready been down that path.  So I decided to start from the beginning.  I started by watching the original BSG all the way through.  Great series, really enjoyed watching it.  Then I took on Galactica 1980.  Most people told me to skip this, but I wanted to see where Larson was attempting to take the franchise.  It wasn't great, but I didn't hate it.  I respect what they were able to accomplish on such a limited budget.

After all that BSG, I took a break and watched through Larson's Buck Rogers.  Great premise, mostly mindless sci-fi, 'monster of the week' type programming.  Loved it.  Ended too abruptly.  Now I am starting BSG 2004.  I have the mini-series, all of the episodes, and all of the webisodes.  I just started with the first part of the mini-series and I all ready have a different feeling about it.  Just knowing and experiencing the roots of the franchise is really helping me connect better with the characters.  It brings a whole new level of enjoyment.

After all of that TV watching is done, I believe I will be ready to dive into Caprica when it starts.  Bring it on.
